Physiotherapy

The physiotherapist at Origin Health offers a wide spectrum of services to help you return to a pain-free, functional lifestyle. Our goal is to tailor every treatment to your specific needs on that given day, allowing your body to re-establish or maintain the intricate balance and harmony of all of your body systems. We work with bones, ligaments, tendons, soft tissues, nerves and circulation throughout your body allowing your body to express its maximum health potential. We strive to play an active role not only in rehabilitation but also prevention.

The following are some of the ways your physiotherapist will work with you throughout your journey of health.

  • Manual Therapy- hands on mobilization, manipulation, soft tissue techniques
  • Exercise Therapy- rehabilitation, pre- and post-operative exercises, core stabilization, postpartum health, osteoporosis, return to sport
  • Electrical Modalities- laser, ultrasound, muscular stimulation, enhanced soft tissue healing, spinal decompression unit for disc disease
  • Osteopathic Therapy Approach- using various hands on, non-invasive techniques that treat the body as a whole functional unit, removing any disruptions in the body systems allowing your body to heal itself.

Some of the Benefits of physiotherapy treatment:

  • Decreased pain

  • Improved joint biomechanics/movements
  • Enhanced soft tissue healing
  • Stimulated muscle activity
  • Corrected muscle imbalances and improved posture

  • Return to work post motor vehicle collision or work-related injuries

Manual Therapy

Manual Therapy involves the physiotherapist’s use of his or her hands to mobilize joints or soft tissue to restore proper alignment and movement. Several different techniques can be used to restore normal motion and these techniques can be used all over the body. These techniques also help restore flexibility and normal tone of muscle, ensuring that each region of the body moves fully, efficiently and safely.

Exercise Therapy

Exercise therapy involves eliciting motion of the body or its parts in order to relieve symptoms and improve function. Specific stretching, strengthening, and stabilization exercises are a crucial part of the rehabilitation process for most musculoskeletal injuries. Continued exercise is an important component of injury prevention. Our clients will have exercise programs tailored to their needs in our state-of-the-art, brand new facility. This is also a crucial part of the success and recovery pre- and post-surgery.

Electric Modalities

Electrotherapy (Ultrasound, TENS, neuromuscular electrical stimulation): These various modalities will serve as an adjunct to your treatment to help stimulate tissue healing, reduce pain, reduce swelling and restore normal muscle function. Your therapist will typically use these modalities pre- or post-treatment.

Work Injury

Our physiotherapist is well versed in treating and preventing work-related injuries. It is part of your therapist’s role to act as a liason between the client and Work Safe B.C. We will design your rehabilitation program so you have a full recovery and ensure that you have a safe and sustainable return to work. We devise individualized programs that involve education, injury-specific strengthening, cardiovascular and flexibility training as well as functional and work-simulated activities. Typically, once Worksafe B.C approves your claim you are entitled to 8 weeks or 21 visits of care but this can vary depending on the nature of your injury. Early intervention is important as research shows that recovery for those that seek physiotherapy shortly after an injury is much shorter than those who wait.

Motor Vehicle Collision

The physiotherapist at Origin Health welcomes clients who are suffering from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle collision. She has experience treating soft tissue injuries, whiplash and many more dysfunctions that are specific to motor vehicle collisions. She is also very effective in dealing with lawyers, ICBC adjusters and physicians to advocate for her clients and ensure their healthcare needs are met.
